OUR STORY
Mighty Hoopla was created with joy and inclusivity in mind, uniting music lovers, spreading positivity and supporting the LGBTQ+ community across our stages, behind the scenes and most importantly in our audiences’ experiences.
The brainchild of East London queer collective Sink The Pink & iconic club night Guilty Pleasures, Mighty Hoopla was born on the sunny shores of Bognor Regis at a Butlin’s Weekender in 2016, creating a genuine you-had-to-be-there moment.
In 2017, we took the leap into a green field site to become a fully fledged music festival in Victoria Park, attracting 10,000 people for our inaugural show. We then moved into Brockwell Park in 2018, which is still our home today, and in 2022 expanded to a two day show, which now serves an audience of tens of thousands of people across both days.
In 2025, we took Mighty Hoopla to the Mediterranean and created Hoopla Malta. A festival & holiday experience over three days on the magical isle of Malta.
For 2026, we’re packing a slightly bigger suitcase and taking Mighty Hoopla down under. Set against the backdrop of the iconic Bondi Beach Mighty Hoopla Sydney will bring together international artists with homegrown stars, as well as some of the best LGBTQ+ talent in Australia for a very special day of pure pop joy.
OUR VALUES
As well as creating joyous spaces for our community to enjoy their favourite musical artists and LGBTQ+ collectives, Mighty Hoopla is committed to supporting and uplifting marginalised communities all year round. Since our creation in 2016, we have dedicated ourselves to consistent monetary donations to key charities and funds that help uplift our community and wider causes.
Diversity and inclusion is, and always will be, at the heart of what we do. Our lineups boast a female and non-binary majority every year, with 2025’s sold out show seeing 100% female stage headliners across our three main stages, becoming the first ever major UK festival to achieve that.
This commitment goes beyond the artists on our stages and is the basis of the team that produce all our events. We are proud to have 50% female and non-binary crew members across every key role within our show as well as majority LGBTQ+ identifying core team.
As a major UK festival we also strive to be the most accessible festival, to ensure every member of our audience has the best experience with us. Today we have a dedicated access team that work all year round, who you can contact at any point with any enquiry. For more information on, head to our access page, here.
We believe artists have the power to shape culture and society. Any artist using their platform to promote hate speech, homophobia, transphobia, racism, cultural appropriation or any form of derogatory behaviour will never be welcome at Mighty Hoopla.
Every year we invite guest speakers from key organisations to our main stage to help amplify their voices to our audience.
OWNERSHIP
In order to produce a world class event for our audience we became part of Superstruct Entertainent in 2023, joining a wider group of independently operated festivals across the UK, Europe & Australia. This partnership helped secure Mighty Hoopla’s long-term future as the cost of running a festival in London had risen by a huge percentage post-pandemic, making the financial risk too great for the festival to take on alone. Superstruct gave us the opportunity to continue elevating our lineups and on-site experience for everyone who comes through the gates.
In 2024, Superstruct itself had a change of ownership when its then parent company Providence Equity Partners sold their interest to a new investor, KKR. A transaction that we were not aware of until it’s completion.
Superstruct’s investors have no input into our festival, we have no dealings with them, and we are produced and delivered by the same team that started Mighty Hoopla in 2016.
We retain creative and cultural independence, and it has been agreed that any revenue or profits from our show will stay within the business to improve the festival or develop new events worldwide.
OUR WORK
Since our first show, we have always supported vital LGBTQ+ charities including Not A Phase, UK Black Pride, Margate Pride, Rainbow Migration, Stonewall Housing as well as many other community based projects and funds.
In 2024, Mighty Hoopla launched Pink Noise (CIC no. 13399745), a community led fund supporting the most vulnerable members of the LGBTQ+ community. The fund was created to provoke real life change for grassroots organisations, enabling them to continue the often lifesaving services they provide to so many. Since its creation, our fund has generated over £100,000 and that figure is set to double for 2026. For more information on Pink Noise, click here.
In 2025 the festivals, artists and customers involved in Brockwell Live helped donate over £275,000 to Médecins Sans Frontières, an international, independent humanitarian organisation that provides emergency medical aid in conflict zones, such as Lebanon, Iran, Palestine and Syria and many others. Médecins Sans Frontières has been a partner of Brockwell Live since 2022 and we have a long term commitment to the organisation.
Working collaboratively with Brockwell Live we also support vital local community groups all year round. The Brockwell Live Community Fund has been running since 2019 and was created to benefit the local community who may be impacted by our event series hosted in Brockwell Park. Funded entirely by guest list donations, artist and brand contributions as well as a proportion of the festival profits, the fund exists to support and enable brilliant local initiatives in Lambeth. To date, over £212,000 has been distributed to projects in the surrounding area. The fund is part of Brockwell Live’s commitment to building a long-term, sustainable, and responsible partnership with both Brockwell Park and the communities who call it home. Full details on all of last year’s (2024) successfully funded projects can be found here.
Last year we partnered with Levelling The Field, an innovative festival trainee programme for the d/Deaf and Disabled community, offering paid opportunities in the festival space. The initiative diversifies the backstage space of festivals, and offers its trainees experiences in stage management, artist liaison, programming and production. We are proud to be the only festival in the UK outside of Glastonbury that offers this programme and we will be continuing this partnership into 2026 and beyond.
2026 will also see the inaugural Trans Mission Live, a fully charitable concert presented by Mighty Hoopla & Olly Alexander, which will take place on 11th March at OVO Arena Wembley. Supported by dozens of International artists and allies to the Trans community, the event will act as a fundraiser for Not A Phase & The Good Law Project. Tickets can be found here.
